API Traffic Management
Application API traffic is forwarded to the AppSentinels Platform by the on-premise Controller, after anonymizing any PII. This traffic is used for:
- API Discovery
- Passive Vulnerability Scanning
- Advanced Threat Detection (e.g., Automated Threat Detection - ATD)
- AI/ML-based Structural and Behavioral Learning
During the initial onboarding phase, the platform requires complete API traffic to learn the application's structure and behavior. Once this learning phase is complete, the amount of data sent can be optimized.
To manage outbound data, AppSentinels offers configurable log sync options per application.
API Log Sync Options
You can configure data forwarding based on the following modes:
Schedule
Send complete API traffic logs only during a specified time window.
- Configure the start time and the duration in hours.
- Example: Setting 4:00 PM and 4 hours means data will be sent from 4 PM to 8 PM.
Always
Continuously forwards full API traffic to the platform.
Never
Sends only metadata (API names, endpoints, and statistics).

Outgoing Data Analytics
To help manage cost and optimize data flow, AppSentinels provides analytics on outgoing data volume over time. This helps teams monitor and understand traffic patterns, aiding in decisions around data sync modes and scheduling.
To view this information, navigate to: Settings → Applications → Analytics (icon) for the desired application.
The chart displays daily data transfer (in GB), offering visibility into spikes, reductions, and trends in API traffic sent to the platform.
